MEET OUR DIRECTORS

Carole Smith
and her husband Ron have owned property in Groveland for 24 years and have been a permanent resident for approximately six years.  Carole was a secretary for many years before she became an enrolled agent authorized to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. I went back to work after having my children and learned about income taxes. She has operated her own business for the last 30 years.

Carole is a member of Soroptimist International of Groveland, Friends of the Library, STCHS, SSSI as well as the residents and ladies clubs. She believes that the older generation can sometimes be forgotten and is committed to her role in SSSI to make sure that this does not happen.

Linda Craig has been visiting Groveland since 1968 and has lived here with her husband Allen full time since 2005.  She is an active volunteer in many community groups including Women’s Club, Aviation Association and Brainy Groveland. She serves as a Trustee at the Evangelical Free Church and is a docent  at the Groveland Museum.

Linda has experienced many issues that concern seniors as she advocates for her aging parents. She is an enthusiastic cheerleader for causes she supports and is looking forward to contributing to the future needs of our local seniors.

Maggie Jacobson
has lived in Groveland for seven years. A graduate of San Jose State University, she also holds a J.D. from the University of San Francisco. She was employed by Consolidated Freightways as their Labor Employee Relations Counsel before entering private practice with CF as her principal client preparing Affirmative Action Plans and responding to EEOC discrimination charges.  Her last professional position was with Judicial Council of California where she conducted employment investigations (including complaints about assigned judges), she also worked in labor contract negotiations and Superior Court Human Resources training.

Maggie enjoys bridge and quilting.  She is a library volunteer and works part-time for Sierra Senior Providers, managing Senior Lunches at the Little House and coordinating the Meals on Wheels Program. Maggie was raised by her grandparents and has a special affinity for seniors.

Kathy Ryan and her husband Steve have been a full-time residents of Groveland since 2006. Kathy has a BS in Foods and Nutrition from Cal Poly Pomona, and was an elementary school teacher for nine (9) years. An active volunteer, Kathy has been the organizer of the highly successful Mt. Carmel Catholic Church Christmas Craft Faire (scholarship fundraiser) for the past several years. Kathy and Steve are also the founders and sponsors of Brainy Groveland, an innovative early elementary reading program offered at Tenaya Elementary School.

Kathy enjoys being a part of an organization that will enhance living in Groveland. She likes the direction of SSSI and the ideas that are behind the organization’s objectives. She is committed to developing programs and services locally that will reduce the requirement for people to go “off the hill”. Recent experiences with her own parents have given Kathy an appreciation of the specific needs of seniors to access services near their place of residence.

Alex Wylie
has owned a home in Groveland since 1997 and became full time resident in 2005. He was educated in Edinburgh, Scotland at the Royal High School and attended the Herriot Watt College. He has also attended INSEAD (European Business School) In Fontainebleau in France. He worked in sales and marketing management and general management in Europe and North America.

Alex and his wife Isobel are Friends of the Groveland Library volunteers where Alex is a Booklegger working with Tenaya 2nd Grade.  He and Isobel deliver Meals on Wheels to families in the Groveland/Big Oak Flat district.  He shares a concern felt by many people living “on the hill” that lack of services for seniors may force them to leave their chosen homes. He is committed to assist in making the current plans for SSSI a reality.
